Check Your Solar Rebate Eligibility
Queensland homeowners can save thousands of dollars through the federal STC solar rebate. But the rebate reduces every year — and eventually disappears. Find out what you qualify for right now.
How Much Is the 2026 Solar Rebate?
The rebate amount depends on your system size and location. North Queensland is in Zone 1 — the highest rebate zone in Australia. Melbourne and other regions also qualify for STC rebates. Here are typical rebate values for 2026 in NQ.
6.6kW System
10kW System
13.3kW System
*Prices indicative only. Actual STC values fluctuate with market conditions. Final price depends on system configuration and installation requirements.
The Rebate Is Shrinking Every Year
The federal STC scheme reduces every January 1st until it ends completely in 2031. Every year you wait, you pay more for the same system.
Eligibility Requirements
Most Queensland homeowners qualify for the STC solar rebate. Here are the requirements — and good news, Smart Solar Group ticks every box for you.
Property Type
Residential property (house, townhouse, or unit). Must be a permanent structure with a suitable roof for solar panel installation.
System Size
Systems up to 100kW qualify for STC rebates. Most residential systems are between 6.6kW and 13.3kW and qualify for full rebate amounts.
Accredited Installer
Installation must be completed by a CEC (Clean Energy Council) accredited installer. Smart Solar Group is fully CEC accredited.
Approved Equipment
Panels and inverters must be on the CEC approved products list. All equipment we install (Canadian Solar, Q CELLS, Fronius, Sungrow) is CEC approved.
Location
Available to all Australian residents. North Queensland postcodes are in the highest rebate zone, meaning maximum STC values. Melbourne and other Australian locations also qualify for STC rebates, though zone values may vary.
Grid Connection
System must be connected to the electricity grid (or an approved standalone system). Most residential installations qualify automatically.
Understanding STCs (Solar Rebates)
What are STCs?
Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) are a form of government rebate for renewable energy systems. When you install solar, your system generates STCs based on its size and location. These certificates have a monetary value that is deducted from your system price.
How is the value calculated?
STC value depends on three factors: your system size (kW), your postcode zone (North Queensland is Zone 1 — the highest), and the number of years remaining until 2031. The formula generates a specific number of STCs, each worth approximately $37–$40.
How do I claim them?
You don't need to do anything. Smart Solar Group handles the entire STC process for you. We apply the rebate as an upfront discount on your system price, so you see the reduced price from the start. No paperwork, no waiting for reimbursement.
Why are they reducing?
The STC scheme is designed to phase down each year until 2031, when it ends entirely. Each January 1st, the number of STCs generated by new systems decreases. This means the rebate gets smaller every year — making now the best time to install.
